Description[?]:
Colleagues, There are only 3 countries on Terra where the compulsory education age is 21, Rildanor is one of them. We agree that citizens need to be well educated before they become active on the labour market, and especially in the intelligence era we live in today but the big disadvantage on that measure is that we unconsciously 'decompose' of the lowest stratum of the market, the 'unskilled workers' which belong to the fundaments of socio-economical structure - construction, dockers, public workers, ... - well-educate pupils refuse to do that kind of work while students who don't have the capacity to learn until they are 21, are obligated to stay dependent on their parents until the day they reach that age, maybe not finished their secondary education. Economicly speaking, we talk about a rather large section of the national population who is being kept away from the labour market while the population between 18 and 30 should maintain our economic sector. For the lowest stratum of our sector, as I said before, companies will have to - in the future when the population threatens age - look to other countries/immigrants to attract workforce. While in one side to try to keep the borders closed as much as possible when on the other side these are the people who are willing to do those kind of jobs, uneducated for a smaller wage. When pupils reach the age 18, they are considered adults in Rildanor, adults should have to freedom to decide between study and work, the feedom to decide what they want to do with their life. So we think the compulsory education age should be lowered to 18, for all the reasons mentioned above. Regards |

Message | "Lowering the age will increase unemployment." Not necessary, in theory more young citizens will become active on the labour market but an highering of the retirement age should have the same negative effect. Older workers cost more, allot of employment contract include a wage raise of a certain percentage acc. the years of employment while 18 year olds are payed the minimum wage or acc. the qualifications of the worker. For the money companies spend on one 50 year old worker they can easily hire two 18 year olds. More people on the labour market in these times of low unemployement = more national tax income 18 considered as adult = assumed to be able to make own choices - work or study. Regards. |

Message | We support this. Why force people to stay longer in school if they are already set in doing, say, professional sports? 18 is reasonable for us. |

Message | "... are obligated to stay dependent on their parents until the day they reach that age" That is a little too much going to school and having a job are two seperate thinhs that can be done at the same time. |
