Bill: Legal drug distribution
Details
Submitted by[?]: Likaton Fascist Front
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2146
Description[?]:
Currently the state subsidises drug to low income individuals. We suggest that we extend this principle to all of Likatonian society while completely funding drugs to low income area. This will also place the government in a powerful position as the main buyer of drugs and thus be able to keep the price of supplied drugs low. |

Old value:: The government subsidises the cost of pharmaceutical drugs for people on low incomes.

Message | Keeping the prices of pharmaceutical drugs artificially lower than they should reduces or eliminates any real incentive for pharmaceutical drug companies to pour money into research and development. Therefore, we oppose. |

Message | The free market in production and research will continue as long as someone is willing to buy, namely the state, and as far as buyers go few have a better credit rating, also the drug companies will benefit from economies of scale when selling to a single buyer. PSS does not think for a minute that the drug companies would turn its back on sales of millions of units, and the resultant profits. |

Message | Having the government as the primary buyer for drugs leads to increased opportunities for corruption, decxreased competition, and less innovation. Let the people decide what to buy, by voting with their own pocketbooks, and the best will prevail. |
Date | 16:05:17, November 22, 2005 CET | From | Commonwealth Workers Army | To | Debating the Legal drug distribution |
Message | The Red Dawn Faction considers this a step in the right direction, and moves to support this legislation. For far too long, the Likatonian economy has been held hostage to pharmaceutical companies and medical-insurance magnates. And the poorest citizens of Likatonia have suffered the most under that regime. It is time for some control on the medical cash-cow, and for some equity in healthcare. |
