Bill: Home Guard Bill (2144)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Deltarian Nationalist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2145

Description[?]:

In times of war it would be sensible to have the option to call up as many citizens as we need to serve the nation. They will have the choice whether to serve their nation by defending it at home or by going abroad. These citizens will only have to be called upon if we are in a major conflict and do not have enough troops.

MessageWe support. It would be stupid not to take advantage of all of our manpower when fighting a war and this allows us that.

MessageManpower that is not great in numbers, poorly motivated conscripts who will run at the first shot, and a defense budget that doesn't allow for the cost of arming these draftees. It would not only ruin our economy due to inflation or major debt, it will also weaken our active duty troops who wll be cut back in weapons and training. We don't need a large land force, it doesn't make sense from a overall military strategy.

MessageThis is only during war time. We need to reserve the right to call up troops for battle when needed. What's to stop some of them being trained for airforce and naval roles as well? In wartime our defence budget would rise massively and we would be able to afford training and equipment more easily.

MessagePlus even in wartime if it is felt we don't need them then there will be no draft, this i would give us more options though.
