Bill: Sales Tax Elimination Initiative

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Labour Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 3141

Description[?]:

This bill is aimed at rolling back the influence of Government in the day to day life of citizens.

We feel that Government has no place in adjusting the price of goods and services, particularly those of an essential nature.

The job of setting and adjusting prices in relation to equilibrium prices should lie entirely with the market.

MessageMr Speaker,

As much as we would like to delete these taxes, we cannot. The Emperor's vast domains require constant protection from the Holy Imperial Military and to make sure that our military is as well equipped and as modern as possible, these taxes are necessary.

In a more practical way, we must inform the DLP that tax rates are set into the Constitution and it is necessary to amend said constitution (which requires 2/3 of votes) to change any tax rate.

I yield.

MessageWe would argue that a more appropriate way of raising revenue for the noble cause of funding this nation's military is through an increase in income taxation and not on the taxes of goods and services. These taxes ultimately distort the market and are detrimental to the economic development of this great nation.
