Bill: Cabinet Negotiations 3165

Details

Submitted by[?]: Deltarian True Christian Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 3166

Description[?]:

"Most democracies, when no party holds 50% of the support of the voters, negotiate some kind of Cabinet balance - usually creating a Coalition Majority, and a Minority or Shadow Cabinet.

We appear to have skipped the negotiation stages, which is fine - we did manage a smooth transition, and that is important.

The True Christian Party attempted to advance a kind of 'Unity' Coalition, allowing representation for ALL parties, proportional to their electoral success. Unfortunately, this 'Unity' Cabinet was opposed and, in some cases, explicitly refused.

There's nothing we can do about that - we can't force other parties to join our Unity Coalition - but we CAN offer alternatives.

So, this 'alternative' offers seats to parties that WERE willing to at least CONSIDER the Unity Cabinet.

It can't hurt to see how it fares. If it fails, we can always offer other alternatives."

Message"We thank the Thatcherite Alliance and the Progressive Party for their consideration.

Coalition Cabinets often bring together unlikely partners, and we are extremely appreciative that such disparate elements managed to put aside their differences for the greater good.

Obviously. we expect there to still be political conflict. Our 'Coalition' is not a change of political affiliation or belief. It's more important than that - it's an ability to reach beyond that for the greater good.

Hopefully, we've got some kind of platform for development here.

The True Christian Party firmly believes in Unity in governance, and that is an agenda we're likely to keep following - the only question is whether others are willing to negotiate, or actually prefer a hardline Majority/Shadow paradigm.

We leave the negotiations to the Forum, of course."

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election.
