MessageMr. Speaker,

Can the CLP explain how this bill would help the low income brackets to be provided with a quality and affordable health care?

I welcome the open and active debate on this bill since this issue is never settled to this date.

MessageMr Speaker,

We thank the honourable member for his question. We, in the CLP, believe that healthcare and market forces are not at odds with one another and in fact believe that the two can work together. We believe that were the system privatised that there would be increased levels of competition from all service providers. It is this competition that would ultimately lead to better service delivery by medical corporations and also lead to better innovation in the field as healthcare providers find better and cheaper ways to deliver healthcare services to Rutanians. Although the bill suggests that healthcare would be private entirely, we do not suggest the government do not regulate the field, as to protect users and providers from excessive insurance costs.

MessageMr. Speaker,

I thank the member for his response. I agree with his statement on how the privatization of this industry will conclusively lead to better quality health care with high level of competition. But there certainly is a big downside to it as well that we all can't ignore: excessive health care insurance costs. IF the health care would go fully private, there wouldn't be any regulatory measures imposed upon the industry that would control costs. In addition, going private doesn't necessarily mean that the government would not put an expenditures on the sector. The private health care systems will put an inflation to a risk, as well as the wage expenses on the medical practitioners. And who would prevent the health care providers rejecting to provide coverages to the lower income brackets? the government?

I suggest instead of going fully private, let us consider a rational private health care system where the government subsidize the costs for low income brackets. This will prevent the potential crisis that we may face.

Random fact: Did you know you can change the official name of your nation? All you need to do is draw up a new name that is in accordance with the Nation Renaming Guide, pass a bill proposing the name change with a two-thirds majority and then post a request to Moderation on the "Renaming Requests" thread. You can change city and region names in this way too.
