Bill: Religion bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Thomasian Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2147

Description[?]:

Although we support the right of religious groups to exist and for people to be able to join religions freely, we believe that to prevent the abuse of our laws by groups who are not acting for any religious motive but are instead driven by the desire of profit and temporal rather than spiritual gain that the following changes to our laws regarding religion are needed.

"Religions are required to obtain government approval before promoting themselves or advertising in any manner." This is to make sure that methods such as subliminal messaging, hypnosis, group pressure and other dangerous methods are not used.

"Recognized religions are not taxed." Religions must be recognized by the government as trying to obtain a spiritual rather than a temporal gain through tax avoidance.

"Religious schools are allowed, but are strictly regulated. Only recognised religions may set up religious schools." This is to prevent the brainwashing of our children by sinister groups.

MessageWhy would a political party or ideology be able to promote themselves without censorship while religions cannot?.

All these options are simply attempts of the government to control religion through penalizations to those that it disagrees with. The government simply needs to stop reckognizing a Religion and suddenly they will be treated even worse than a corporation which at least can promote themselves. This veiled censorship is innaceptable.

MessageI agree on this proposition. Altough LSP thinks the best way of getting people out of the hands of sects etc., the increasing grip of self proclaimed religious leaders on society is worrying. This is nothing about censorship, bonafide religions have nothing to fear... If society gives possibilities to religions like not paying taxes etc., society must be capable of setting up the rules about religion too. We will support this bill

MessageWhy do I think this bills has a named and clear target?. This is obviously and attempt by the immimgrant sectors to put an stop to the growing Mordusian pride guided by us PUF.

We strongly condemn the proposals in these bills since these are nothing else than political censorship and an attempt to damage a political party who they know, will soon rule a greater and moral Mordusia.

MessageWe also see this bill as a first big step towards complete government control of religion in Mordusia, which we cannot support at all. We also trust in the intelligence of our citizens to be able to distinguish between a valid religion and a cult.

MessageA cult is only a religion you don't approve of. This bill asks the government to endorse some religions, but not others. This is inherently unfair.

MessageWe have laws against fraud, kidnapping, and murder. All religions contradict each other, most ask for money. Which ones are stealing form their members? You need to face the fact that people have a right to make bad decisions for themselves, like being a Plinialist. Those guys are crazy, but we won't stop them until they endanger others.

MessageAgain, I repeat my remarks: GOOD religions, who mean the best for the people and who are honest, have NOTHING to fear, because this bill doesn't concern them. CULTS shall be banned by this bill, and will no longer be capable of making profits on people.

MessagePS: about the L-HP remarking that Plinialists do not harm others: I advise to just look at the horrible role their political representatives play in Mordusia.

Random fact: Once approved, players should copy Cultural Protocols into a bill in the debate section of their nation page, under the title of "OOC: Cultural Protocols". This bill should include links to the passed Cultural Protocol bill and the Moderation approval.
