Bill: Freedom of Prayer Act.

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal-Progressive Union

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2147

Description[?]:

As not every religous student attends a religious school, this bill allows for optional prayer for students who request to pray. This does not violate any "secular" laws, but gives religous students the option to pray, as it does not force those students who do not pray, force prayer upon them.
As it is optional, denying prayer to those students who wish to, is denying those students the same civil liberties that the law was intended to protect the secular students from, the right to religous freedom is equal to the rights of secular freedoms.

MessageWhy deny prayer, it's optional and it doesn't infringe on anyone's liberties.

MessageThere is nothing within the current law that stops individual pupils from praying. All the current bill does is stop a teacher-led prayer, which is a very different idea. The new bill could well infringe on the civil liberties of those who do not wish to pray but have been sent to schools where the teachers lead the class in prayer forcing them to pray. Because of this, we feel it is our duty to vote against this bill and ask for other parties to support us in this position.

MessageIf a teacher is hostile towards prayer, the students will be intimidated. This just allows the teachers to offer to the students the oppurtunity to pray if they wish. They don't need to lead a prayer, just give them an option.

MessageIf a child wishes to pray the teachers cannot, by law, stop them.
Using your logic the other way, if a teacher is pro-prayer and leads the class in prayer, something that would be allowed by passing this law, than a child may be intimidated into prayer, again something that is not a good thing.
