| Message | We oppose these suggestions. Kirlawa's current budget is balanced, with a small surplus. Reducing these taxes could send us into deficit. If you're interested in reducing the luxury tax, perhaps we could compromise with a one-point or at most a two-point reduction; these would probably leave us with a (negligible) surplus. Three points would probably send us into deficit. 58% is the revenue-maximising rate for the corporate tax, and we want to maintain it at this figure. Somebody has to pay the taxes to fund the budget, and every KDI paid in tax by a corporation is one fewer KDI that has to come from a human taxpayer. This relatively high rate also helps to keep the corporations in check and prevent them from dominating our nation's economy. Non-corporate small businesses (proprietorships and partnerships) do not pay corporate tax; only corporations do, hence the name. |
