Bill: Regulation of Child Labour
Details
Submitted by[?]: Catholic Political Union
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 3266
Description[?]:
Children must not be exploited, and any paid work they do should not interfere with their schooling and general welfare, but to ban children from working altogether is over-the-top and does more harm than good. Work experience and some extra cash can be good for young people and their families. Far better to regulate child labour - especially in terms of number of hours per week, working conditions etc. - than to ban it. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, We are completely against this bill. A childs life is about playing and learning, not working. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, The Democratic Action Party would like to take a stand on this bill, but we are, at present, unclear on the exact legal definition of 'child.' Could someone please enlighten us? |

Message | Mr. Speaker, A child is a person under the age of 13, when that child becomes an adolescent or 'teenager'. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Thank you very much for this information. In light of this (and in contradiction to our earlier suspicion that 'child' extended up to the legal age for adulthood), we can fully oppose this bill as opening the door to reckless exploitation of our nation's children. |

Message | OOC: I understood "child" to mean anybody who is a minor (under 16 in my country). Remember also that it is not uncommon for children to work in Western countries. Think, for example, of a family that runs a shop and lets their kid serve at the till for a few hours a week. |

Message | OOC: That childs not enlisted as an employee, its usually under the table. And from my knowledge I consider a child to not be a senior, an adult or an adolescent. Just my view though, if a child is from say 13 to 18 then we agree with this, but we dont agree with employing children of 13 and younger in any form. Just how I interpret, may not be right |
