Bill: Business Ownership & Governance Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Liberal Alliance

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 3268

Description[?]:

Mr Speaker,

We are not opposed to Democratic Workers Councils as a model of ownership and governance for organisations if they so wish it. however, we do not believe it to be the only acceptable model of ownership, or indeed the most effective or desirable. Government should not dictate exactly how companies should be run or their exact ownership structure. So long as companies obey the law and conform to national regulations and standards we should leave decisions on how they are constituted, to the businesses themselves.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The government does not dictate anyone. It merely encourages and does not make other models of ownership impossible.
From our point of view none of this truly matters given that working class power is the way to go, unfortunately we sometimes have to resort to capitalist arguments in order to safegaurd the gains of the working class and potentially improve these gains.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Worker co-operatives are a fantastic idea and we support the current legislation which grants them tax exemptions and subsidies. We need to broader company ownership in our economy, not concentrate it in the hands of a few big corporations.
