Bill: Conditions of the Referendum
Details
Submitted by[?]: Grand National Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 3282
Description[?]:
Since we have a majority for the referendum with the support of PGR and Unity, we are presenting the conditions of the referendum to be held alongside either the next elections (3282) or those following (3286). 1.) Every party shall be entitled to present a candidate for Head of State, regardless of whether it supports a monarchy or a republic. The decision whether the monarchy will be abolished will be decided upon the results. This means that if the candidate of a party supportive of the monarchy wins the election, he/her will ascend the throne. If a republican candidate wins, the monarchy shall end (the GNP does not support a mere republic, but will present an alternative candidate for the throne). 2.) If a monarchist candidate wins, the Parliament shall legitimate his/her victory by giving him/her a mandate to hold the throne for at least 20 years. If public opinion has drawn against him/her by that time, a new referendum shall be held to seek legitimation again. 3.) Parties are entitled tp create alliances for the referendum, meaning that it is possible for two or more parties to present a joint candidate. 4.) For the referendum, a temporary position of Head of State ("Provisional Head of State") will be created. This will be changed after the referendum, either to a new monarch or a democratically elected president, depending upon the results. The GNP will present its candidate for the throne soon. The House of Santiago will probably run on a PDM ticket, if they wish to defend their rule. PGR and Unity can either back one of those two or present own candidates. Please state your opinion on these conditions and if you agree with them. Thank you. Larissa LeCoultre (GNP) Speaker of the Parliament |

Message | We thank the Unity party for proving democratic responsibility. The PDM, in contrast, proves ignorance and opposition to the voice of the people by only contributing childish insults instead of sincere arguments to this debate. Janine Trichet GNP Parliamentary Group Leader |
