Message | Mr.Speaker Why on earth would you disagree that practical work is necessary? All standardized testing does is see if the students could memorize something quickly. |

Message | Standardized testing allows all students to start at equal footing without advantages. School is meant to prepare you for the working world, not put you in it. |

Message | What better way to understand the working world other than, I don't know, doing work? This doesn't mean we shove them and say "Get a Job!" This means that we will show them the practical application of their knowledge. |

Message | Doing work has too many external factors that could affect a student's grade. It is also better not to subject students to the pressures of doing work, massive compared to the pressures of doing a standardized test. We can get a better understanding of the students mental capacity by their test scores. And as fr physical attributes, that is a factor that should not be graded in a school. |

Message | The purpose of an education system is to ready our children for reality. Will citing random facts help someone get a job interview? Will knowing how to spell every word in existence matter to a farmer? And what if the student is simply having a bad day? Just a few sources to prove my point about standardized testing. http://www.businessweek.com/debateroom/archives/2009/02/stop_the_standardized_test_tyranny.html http://parentsacrossamerica.org/performancepay/ http://www.greatschools.org/students/academic-skills/400-teaching-to-the-test.gs |
