Message | Rt Hon Marcus Dransfield MP, Prime Minister of Hutori Mr Speaker, for too long corporations have viewed Hutori as a soft touch, a place where they can hoard money and not pay a decent share to society. As things stand at present people in our lowest tax bracket pay more of their income than corporations. This is not acceptable, and we hope all parties join us in condemning this obscene state of affairs. |

Message | Rt Hon Tom Heaton MP, Leader of the Opposition, Mr Speaker, this is an outrageous attack on just...everything. This rise from 7% to 30% will not see corporations pay more, but rather this tax hike will be passed on to the consumers. This tax rise will hurt those the socialist party claim to be helping. The Hutorian Conservative Party makes no bones about stating that we wish to see a 0% corporation tax - because we believe the state should play as small a role as possible. In interfering by raising the tax rate to 30% we will see small businesses be unable to re-invest profits - which will now be in state hands - and expand, creating jobs and more wealth for the Hutorian people. Mr Speaker, it is basic economics. Something socialism/communism has never been able to answer for. This government - certainly those leading it - believe that tax rises can pay for everything. The reality however is that the state is spending peoples hard earned money on ridiculous social programmes or a massive welfare state. The people will eventually become so oppressed through taxation that they will rebel - violently i may add. Mr Speaker, this Bill will see the suppression of small business owners, see massive price increases on all goods - because tax rises will show in inflated prices, large corporations will move their operations abroad and Hutori will fail to attract foreign investment. This Bill is hugely damaging to the Hutorian state and i would hope that all parties see the logic in my party's argument and not see the simplistic - rich people have more money so lets take from them argument - the socialists wheel out to fund their doomed to fail state programmes. I urge all to vote down this Bill which will damage this nation. |
Date | 22:58:09, May 07, 2012 CET | From | Labour Party | To | Debating the Corporation Tax |
Message | Séarlas Baldur, Minister of Internal Affairs Mr Speaker, this move is highly welcomed by the Labour Party. We support capitalism and trade, and do not believe this move will at all effect competition or the ability to be entrepreneurial. The whole point of heightening taxes is not to cause a price rise for the consumer, in fact any company that is foolish enough to be doing so WILL lose out on profits in the long run. Moreover, the opposition speak as if this money is not being reinvested into the economy of Hutori, which it obviously is. Small businesses WILL be able to reinvest profits because the whole point of this government is to help those who need help, and I am sure my colleagues on this side of the room will agree that the aim is to provide smaller business rates and higher business aid. Mr Speaker, the opposition speaks as if we are taxing these corporations in order to hinder our economy. The only thing that is ridiculous is his stating that our social programmes are! We are proud to be bringing about a greater welfare state because we care about the state of welfare of our people! |

Message | Rt Hon Tom Heaton MP, Leader of the Opposition, Mr Speaker, whilst we disagree with the Minister, we do not believe that they would tax to deliberately hinder our economy. We know they follow an ideology based on equality but the harsh reality is that some will always be more equal than others. The HCP accepts there is no such thing as equality so we are proposing legislation that suits everyone, whereas this government's legislation is only suiting some areas. Mr Speaker, like we said, we believe this to be harmful to the Hutorian economy in the long run. Yes, the government may now be able to afford some short term expenditure - but this is at the expense of long term economic growth. I believe this is a big mistake and it is a shame that this will hurt the poorest in our society whenever they are the ones that lower tax rates - not just low corporation tax, but low taxes in general - are supposed to aid. Mr Speaker, may we also add a quick word on the FHP. They describe themselves as, "A centrist party with pluralist values, with a strong belief in pragmatic cooperation along party lines". So basically they have no political viewpoint and just jump on whatever political bandwagon is passing along? I may disagree with the Labour and Socialist Party's views but at least they have the fortitude to explain their position in relation to their ideology. What i cannot accept is a party with no ideology, but rather just attaches itself like a parasite to whatever political bloc needs them to make up the numbers. |
