| Message | Explanation: Art. 1, 3 and 5: will make it possible for people to obtain a civil marriage contract outside religious marriages. Adultery (ie sexual relationships outside wedlock without approval of the other party) will be declared illegal, though not prosecuted as it is not a criminal offence. Partners will be able to annull their civil marriage (this does not regulate religious marriages) with grounded cause: adultery, violence (physical or mental), &c. Art. 2: will make crossdressing explicitly legal. Art. 4: will make interracial sex explicitly legal. Art. 6: will prevent civil marriage to occur between more than two people. However, the law will not make polygamous relationships as such illegal. They will merely be prevented from obtaining government sanctioned civil marriage contracts. Of course, they may live as a group of married (per pair), consenting adults. |

| Message | We are opposed to the limits the CP places on divorce: if that remains in the bill, we will not be able to support it under any circumstances. We are curious about the CP's explanation of the Polygamy statute in light of the discussion on the illegality of adultery, which a polygamous relationship will essentially become. It is not that polygamy will simply become unrecognized: with the adultery statue in this law, having sex outside of recognized union will be considered illegal, because it is by definition, adultery. We wonder about the CP's stance toward polygamy itself. Perhaps the CP would elaborate why it is opposed to polygamy. While we would prefer that the government stay out of the marriage/civil unions question entirely, we have voted for legislation on the topic in the past, so we are not entirely opposed to most of this bill. But more discussion would be beneficial to our decision making. |

| Message | Correction, we not you state: "Sexual relations outside of wedlock without the consent of the other partner." This is a nonstandard definition of adultery. Usually wedlock connotes just that. Lock. Even with consent, it would still be adultery normally. But this clears up the polygamy question for us. We would still like some clarification on the question of polygamy itself? Why not polygamy? |

| Message | 1) Adultery being defined as a sexual relationship outside wedlock that does not have the approvel of the other partner, polygamous relationships cannot be qualified as adulterous as long as all married partners consent. Sexual relationships outside marriage are thus not adulterous per se. 2) The reason why we keep polygamy outside government recognition is merely based on our own values. We have no problem with polygamous relationships, we merely think civil marriage should be as neutral as possible and therefore just sanction consenting couples. |
