Message | Minimum wage actually increases poverty. It decreases jobs by increasing the cost of labor for employers. Any minimum wage teenager knows that one first hand Plus, anyone should be allowed to work for however much money they want to work. Also, Minumum wage teenagers agree with that one from firsthand knowledge |

Message | They don't increases poverty. If they are high enough and follows inflation (what is rather normal), they provide a fair life to citizens that works, avoiding the horrible thing (very common in the US right now) that are "working Poors". And, as corporation taxes are rather low in our country, that won't hurt compagnies. |

Message | The United States has a minimum wage, and it has working poors too? That seems contradictory to your statement. Poverty in the United States is only seen in the unemployed. Those on the minimum wage are considered in "poverty", but are almost exclusively teenagers in part-time jobs. Less than 1% of the workforce makes it. |

Message | The minimum wage is probably very low then. Surely not enough to allow any proper living standards. |

Message | No. The higher the minimum wage, the more jobs are lost. when jobs are lost, more people go into poverty. The only people that benefit from an increase in minimum wage are the few people that are actually given raises from the minimum wage increase. Everyone that loses their jobs because of it obviously lose. Like I said, ask ANY economist. Increase in minimum wage also increases the unemployment rate and increases poverty. If there is no minimum wage, think about it. The people that are unemployed work for ANY wage, including that below minimum wage. They are still under the poverty line, but they are not 100% screwed. plus, they can work longer hours and make it work |

Message | Well it might increase the unemployment rate, but that does not necissarily follow that it will increase poverty. |

Message | McJobs aren't really jobs anyway, certainly nothing to make a career out of.... Therefore if there are less of these, then it is actually better for the economy as a whole.... Never mind social cohesion and crime rates. If someone is faced with working their arse off for very little recompense, or just breaking into said shop and making ten times as much money as they could expect to make in a year, then it is little wonder that crime is so prevelant.... |
