MessageA press-release from the DSU headquarters this morning showed that the new proposed legislation is designed to prevent the exploitation of Mordusian children and ensure that "No Mordusian child is coerced, forced, or compelled into the service of another before they are of a proper age."

Senior Party Official Yitzhak Kohl also commented to the Free Republic of Mordusia Daily that "This legislation is designed to defend children who may be forced into labor before they are ready or perhaps otherwise exploited. In a developed nation as ours, it is our absolute duty to defend our children from naked exploitation. I certainly can see no reason why there would be any opposition to this bill."

MessageWe would support as well, though we are curious about the reason for lowering the age of adulthood to 18. Perhaps the authors of this bill will enlighten us.

MessageChild labour is crucial for underaged people to enjoy first contacts with the labor market. Holiday jobs, seasoning work &c. gives them means to better themselves and to understand an adult way of life.

We can assure our DSU colleagues no child in Mordusia is forced into the labor force and schooling is obligatory for all minors.

We also do not support the lowering of the maturity age and hope those who participated in the compromise earlier will respect this.

MessageAccording to the research done by the DSU, the only law currently in effect to keep minors in school is:

The age until which students, if education were to be compulsory, are required to be educated (limited between 16 and 21).

16

Meaning as it stands, minors are not compelled to attend school for three years before adulthood all while having no legal standing.

And, while the "assurances" of the Conservative Party are duly noted, the only way Mordusian children can have a guarantee of non-exploitation is to put the law on the books. We have also made accommodation for minors wishing to get an early start in the business world by allowing some work at part-time hours. Certainly there are other ways of making contacts in the labor market without subjecting oneself to 40 hours a week?

We also feel that lowering the age of consent to 18 is more appropriate for those that wish to enter into adult contracts. If the only opposition to the bill is the removal of the age lowering the DSU is willing to compromise.

Message18 year olds are no more or less competent to enter into contracts than 19 year olds. We like 19 for the age of adulthood. Since students enter national service as a condition of citizenship, we prefer that people enter NSP who are a bit more mature.

Since this bill was moved to a vote with the age provision in tact, we must oppose.

MessageThe Free Republic has no age of consent, that is specified nowhere in the law.

Also, a 17-year old is allowed to leave school and start working. For most manual laborers, this is reality. And we wonder what's wrong with that?

For children continuing school, a system of holiday jobs should be possible.
