Message | Conservative Party Speaker dr. Kathryn Vailly-Chetham announced that the Conservative Party will not support this bill: "The Mordusian Police Force are a part of the Armed Forces of Mordusia. We therefore wish to treat them as part of an independent military and as such function to secure the daily lives of our citizens and the general wellbeing of the Public." |

Message | OOC: Traditionally, the police force has been a body of the Armed Forces for the last thirty years. It was not very specified, however. |

Message | OOC: PS: A "civilian" police force has as much content as a "civilian military". |

Message | OOC: Actually, the difference would be in which budget pays for them. Also, as a veteran, I can tell you that the military was bound to follow all US laws, but also the UCMJ, or the uniform code of military justice, which set out like 146 more things that a servicemember could be charged with. For example, conduct unbecomming of a Marine was a crime. What did it mean? It meant anything that you did which did not comport with the image the Marine Corps was presenting of itself. In other words, whatever else you were being charged with, they also threw an Article 134 on you as well, because it is unbecomming of a Marine to break the UCMJ... You could therefore be guilty of two crimes instead of just one. The police to my knowledge, are not bound by any such code. Therefore their behavior will always be tried in civilian courts, while a servicemember can be tried in either or both, with possibly entirely different charges respectively. It is incorrect to think of the police as part of the military by default. This law makes them that way, but this is not automatically how it is. Not even close. |

Message | OOC I should say "our law makes them that way" |

Message | The police is not de facto part of the military, it has been played as de jure part of the military (cf. Particracywiki). Also, the current law does not make it automatically part of the military. However, during the Talmorian Civil War for instance the special police brigades Mordusia sent in were completely under control of the military. |

Message | Under pressure of Speaker Vailly-Chetham we have decided to change our stance and will vote in favor of this proposal. |
