Bill: Wild animals as pets - inserting a precaution
Details
Submitted by[?]: Mordusian Political Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 3318
Description[?]:
The MPP speaker on the Environment, Risteard de RĂ³iste, has spotted a possible issue with our laws. As they stand: 1) Everyone may keep endangered animals, without any restrictions whatsoever. 2) Everyone may keep exotic animals, the trade in exotic animals is unregulated. 3) All wild animals may be kept as pets, without any restrictions or precautions whatsoever. Perhaps our speaker has misinterpreted, or twisted, the rules in some way, but we believe that as the rules stand it is perfectly acceptable for someone to have a pet tiger ect with no restrictions. While there are impracticalities to owning such a pet, there are no restrictions in place to ensure the safety of the public. The MPP propose a change to the third law on the list to "Wild animals may be kept as pets; the owners of dangerous wild animals must take the necessary measures to ensure they can't escape". |

Message | The owner is also responsible under the current law. Letting wild animals loose upon your neighbors violates certain property rights... |

Message | But we do also violate the animals' rights to freedom when we allow people to keep them. Just sayin'... |

Message | So a tiger roaming the streets could not be prevented from being incarcerated because he has a "right to freedom"? These animals belong in national parks, enclosured reserves, &c. They will always be "unfree" in some way or another. |
