MessageMr. Speaker,

Are the Rt Hon members of the government actually in favour of democracy, or are they afraid their election was mere fluke?

I yield the floor.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Both our parties participated in the first democratic elections in years in January 3324. There is no need for early elections. Mr. Speaker, The Right Honourable gentleman's party should propose to alter the constitution if his party disagrees with the term length which they themselves probably implemented.

I yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The honourable member's party proposes to make Luthori a part of the Alliance of Terran Republics, an alliance to which this nation has never previously belonged. Furthermore, Luthori has been a member state of the International Monarchist League - a group which the ATR regards as their sworn enemy - from its inception. As such, it is not unreasonable to move for a plebiscite before joining the ATR, which was not in the Commonwealth Party's manifesto and which has not been assented to by the Luthori people.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The people were fully aware that we intended to make Luthori a Commonwealth - a republican system - therefore joining the ATR is not unfounded and does not require an early election.

The people will be fully aware that if they wish to reinstate the monarchy and reverse our reforms then they should vote for your party, or the ILA, in January 3030.

I yield.

MessageSir,

The honourable members' mandate would seem a lot stronger if it were not based on a miserable 15.74% voter turnout. By contrast, at the previous election in 3318, the people voted firmly against their government - awarding them no seats - with a voter turnout of 66.47%!

With a mandate that weak, there is every reason to ask if the people truly wish to be made subject to the ATR.

I yield the floor.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Regardless of the turnout, we still have the greatest mandate. If the people opposed joining the ATR then they would have flocked to vote for your party, something that did not happen.

I yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The turnout is eminently relevant, since it vastly reduces the actual mandate of the Commonwealth Party. After all, 85% of the population did not vote in favour of the Commonwealth Party's proposals!

I yield the floor.

MessageMr. Speaker,

But if they were opposed to our intended reforms they would have voted for your party, that did not happen.

I yield.

Random fact: Don't put "the" as the first word in your party name, because when parties are referred to in news reports, their names are preceded with "the", e.g. the [Socialist Party] has lost.
