Bill: Budget proposal of March 3351

Details

Submitted by[?]: Green-Left Communalist Collective

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 3352

Description[?]:

The Anarcho-Perennial Syndicate (LL) propose to adjust the government's spending budget to better address the economic and social situation of the Socialist Republic of Ikradon.

The Defence budget has been severely reduced to increase spending in departments for productive and progressive initiatives. A nation with a reserve military like ours doesn't need an extravagant Defence budget, since the employees of the Forces work primarily in other sectors, as well as the country producing very little to no arms or weaponry at present. We have also made a cut to the Foreign Affairs Ministry as the Government's international activities have been limited recently and the Ministry today is largely just maintaining the embassies and diplomats/consuls. We have built on the CCC's budget to make smaller increases in some departments for instance Agriculture, this is to give extra spending on development of sustainable agricultural methods and help make the move to more permatcultural farming.

Initiative ideas which ministries could do after the allocated money from the Finance Ministry has been achieved:

SCI:
-Extensive cultural investment; extension of cultural grants; archeological grants, local history groups, and focus on creativity and the arts.
-development/replacement of the brutalist, unecological schools built in the last century.
-cultural and environmental education programmes and the creation of new, progressive degrees.
-advances of the space programme as well as new technological development to contribute Ikradon's move from industrialised to sustainable society.

PCP:
-massive investment in light rail. The creation of light rail systems in all medium/large towns and cities. Hopefully another 200 new bus times in rural areas as well as the improvement of the vast local and rural rail networks.
-continue the move from bureaucratic control of a few industries especially in the major cities; to the self-governing workers co-operatives which operate the majority of other industrial organisations.
-see that overseas shipping is improving in sustainability and that our trade is continuously ethical.

FFP:
-some more involvement with other socialist/socialist-leaning countries like a few of our neighbours (Dundorf etc) to attempt to achieve international solidarity and the eventual spreading of revolutionary spirit to bring about a global proletarian movement.
-continuation of current successful counter-crime programmes which have achieved a near crime-free Ikradon. And more investment in prisoner rehabilitation schemes which seek to educate them in the environmental sector and infrastructure services.

CCC:
-investment in reputable alternative therapies for the mental health sector (e.g. existential therapy) etc.
-agricultural sustainability as mentioned above :)

Funnily enough, Brutalist architecture is my favorite style. ;)

I'll support this proposal though.

MessageApologies!

With the right funding, design and construction methods brutalist architecture can be beautiful and expressive. For me it depends on the period and the architect!

MessageNo offense was taken.

There is actually a lovely example of Brutalist architecture near me: the Pet Milk Building.
it was the former headquarters of the condensed milk brand, Pet.

MessageIn that same city, Carlisle, back in the 70's they were going to knock down a load of 18th century high street shops to build 'an American-style Brutalist shopping centre' thank god a local group managed to stop them haha!

MessageOnly example of brutalist architecture I like is 50 Queen Anne's Gate (informally known as the "Lubyanka"), former headquarters of the Home Office:

Being a student of Russian language and culture, I recognize this nickname to be one of the harshest names that could be given to a government building. ;)

Indeed, a very simple and low key brutalist building.

MessageTo the Foucauldians; our cuts in defences has made massive increases in spending in most other departments, we are not trying to destroy defence, we just see it unnecessary to spend billions of Drahme on arms production etc when there are environmental, infrastructural and social challenges.
