Message | PAC will not accept Article 2 unless there is a justifiable explanation as to why this change should be applied. As for Article 1, PAC does support it fully. -Natalia DuFoe, Former Minister of Justice, PAC Justice Advisor |

Message | The Popular Party believe that Article 2 will reduce unnecessary violence from the police as firearms will only be in the hands of specially trained officers. We also believe that officers without special mental training should never have to go through using a gun on someone. John Morrison Justice Minister |

Message | Minister Morrison, I must personally say that that is no sound reason as to why Article 2 should pass. It won't reduce unnecessary violence. You can still be violent whether with a baton or a pistol. Article 2 will not reduce unnecessary violence at all. What will happen is that police will not be adequately equipped to fight violence from the organized criminal sector. This bill will just reduce the police's efficiency. I, as former Minister of Justice, must frown upon such justification and this bill in general. The police have established programs and criteria for the selection process of a top class officer. When I was minister no one became a police officer all willy nilly, the training program was tough but efficient and crime was significantly reduced. My term as minister did not see unnecessary violence, misuse of police powers, and other such problems because they were easily filtered through specialized programs and criteria. Said Article does not solve the problems you stated. AS such, PAC will be voting nay. -Natalia DuFoe, Former Justice Minister, PAC Justice Advisor |
