Message | [The Right Honorable Nathaniel Simmons] Concerning Article 1, If organized crime or terrorism plot somehow develops... however unlikely... it would be through the internet, as physical laws in place are currently good for free speech and yet also good for crime prosecution, in both major and minor cases. We have the possibility of organized crime and terrorism on the internet going completely undetected, and if an investigation on a possible terrorist incident or on organized crime were to be held, we could not access the internet. This would be a severe blow to the Department of Justice, and an unneeded loss. On the other scale, we could have a child abduction, or small crime ring or piracy group involved with stealing large amounts of money over the internet, and again, we wouldn't be able to investigate it! I believe we are taking an immense risk by not allowing the Department of Justice to do it's job over the internet. And for this reason, I place the bill forward as a solution. Not to invade free speech or the rights of this great nation, but to allow our excellent system to become even more so. I place the bill in debate for 5 months(June 3386), as to not run over the elections coming next November. If additional debate time is needed and requested, I will extend it. |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
