Message | Considering that the SP themselves just recently posted a bill changing Article 10 to what it currently is, we would like to inquire about the abrupt change of heart. Possessing WMD is the best way to deter other nations from attacking us. The SP's believes, and has stated several times, that possessing WMD marks Kalistan as a militarist country. According to that same logic, if a person owned a rock, they are a militarist because they could throw it at someone. Obviously, the Minimalists oppose. |

Message | The New Alliance is glad to go on parliamentary record saying that we support a secure nation. While we do not seek to globe trot, bending other nations to our own wills, it would be nonsense to not take measure to ensure that our own nation's is not bent to other's. |

Message | With regards to the comments by our former associates in Government, we posted the bill allowing the Government to export weaponry as part of a free trade bill. But if our Government, the Minimalists included, wish to produce nuclear, biological and chemical weapons in Kalistan, we would like to take steps to first nationalize and then restrict all weapons production in this country. The first steps are found in this bill. It is our intent to not provide any sort of incentive to sell weapons of mass destruction, even though the current law only permits sale of conventional weaponry. Given the attitude of the Minimalists with regard to the NBC ban currently in place which they are playing an active role in undermining, it is only a matter of time before they make the argument "Well, we have the weapons now, why not export them while we are at it." Our goal therefore is to pre-empt that by reversing the direction of the slippery slope. We patently disagree with the Minimalists opinion with regard to the deterent power of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. Taking safeguards away in law will make our country MORE dangerous, not less. We believe the Minimalists are completely and absolutely incorrect in their logic about weapons of mass destruction and so we obviously reject all arguments that flow from what we view are incorrect opening premises. With regard to the New Alliances' position: The New Alliance should be aware that there are many other ways to ensure that Kalistan is not bent to the will of other nations. Developing a strong economy, with peaceful and wide ranging economic and diplomatic contacts around the world have done well for Kalistan. Being geo-politicall out of the way also has helped us. Being a nation armed and ready for combat should it ever come to us is both threatening, in terms of creating a security dilemma for our neighbors who see us arming and without any further information, can reasonably assume that we are arming for no other purpose than to attack them because what else could possibly explain the radical shift in our policy which has occurred over the last couple of years to undo what has been our state's policy for centuries, but also a vast waste of relatively limited national resources, because building nuclear, biological and chemical weapons is expensive as it is, but doing the research and development necessary to get one together is exponentially more expensive, given that we have not researched these types of weapons in the living memory of any of our ancestors, and therefore must either buy the research from some willing seller, or do the incredibly expensive R&D ourselves. In one fell swoop, you have reversed centuries of Kalistani policy, created a security dillemma and a potential arms race with our neighbors who we have happily been at peace with for those same centuries, and guaranteed a long road to bankruptcy of our national treasury. And for what? Because you do not believe that the conventional forces and the paramilitaries in Kalistan are capable of meeting and defeating any threat that comes our way? We call that madness, and call upon the Government, as a long standing Party and as a representative of a significant portion of its population to stop its rush to overturn our national practices and undermine the tranquility that has guaranteed Kalistani security and prosperity for centuries, which, if your Parties do not remember it because your Parties were not around for the last few centuries, our Party does because our Party was. The current policy of our government is wrong headed, it is dangerous and it will lead to disaster, of one form or another. |

Message | We have patiently given our rebuttals to all of these accusations in the past. Our position has been explained thoroughly and will not change. If any Party is curious about our stance, these debates can be looked over. http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=365263 http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=366598 http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=367346 |

Message | It is very difficult for our Party to take seriously that the Minimalist Party, as they have claimed do not support the acquisition of nuclear, biological and chemical weaponry, given their hostility toward the prohibitions against those weapons that our nation has long held. Our position is clear as well: it was adopted, explicitly, sixty one years after our Party's founding in 2591. Article 8 of our Party's platform states : "Article 8. SPoK is committed to peaceful, productive foreign affairs, and commits itself to eternal support of the Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Weapons Ban Treaty. SPoK opposes all war which is not a war for liberation, conducted by the potential beneficiaries themselves. SPoK believes in the free access to weaponry and promotion of militias for the defense of the state against tyranny." We will not hesitate to stand on our entire platform to promote the goals of the Socialist Party, because we feel that those goals benefit the country more than the positions to the contrary. |

Message | We have never claimed to NOT support the acquisition of nuclear, biological, and chemical weaponry. We have stated our stance time and time again. Our goal, and political stance, it to retain a nuclear, biological, and chemical deterrent for the pure purpose of protecting the citizens of Kalistan. If any Party is still under the belief that our stance is otherwise, please provide their reasoning. |

Message | The ban prevents us from acquiring those weapons. Actively seeking to end the ban and then the statement "Our goal, and political stance, it to retain a nuclear, biological, and chemical deterrent" when we do not currently possess one suggests to us that the Minimalists aim to acquire one. Up until the recent efforts of several Parties in our republic to alter the treaty regimes in Kalistan to permit us to acquire nuclear, biological and chemical weaponry went through, over the strongest possible objections of the minority, Kalistan had explicitly and deliberately banned the possession, usage and research of NBC and other unconventional weaponry. Due to the efforts of several militarist Parties, to include the Minimalists, that ban was not only lifted, but the policy was itself reversed. Protection or not- It does not matter. We had rejected nuclear, biological and chemical weapons before, and now we embrace them. The SP does not particularly care WHY we have adopted that policy- The policy itself leads to war. Simple logic. If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it is a duck, regardless of how loudly it protests that it is not a duck. |
Date | 23:41:54, December 05, 2012 CET | From | Minimalist Party | To | Debating the NBC Ban |
Message | First, the SP accuses us of supporting the ban of NBC weapons, then when we state our stance again, the SP accuses us of stating that we supported the ban of NBC weapons and have changed our minds. We do not know how else to convince the SP of our stance. The policy supporting NBC weapons for defense leads to war in the SP's OPINION. Not a fact. Basing logic on opinions does not yield facts. |
