Bill: Cutting Spending on Politicians Act

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 3420
Description[?]:
With the Prime Minister's antics on her trip to Hulstria, the general public are getting fed up with politicians putting their snouts on in the trough to line their wallets. Less money should be spent on politicians so that more can be spent on decent health and education systems. We therefore propose reducing the number of MPs and reducing their salaries. Message | We oppose this measure whole-heatedly. It would completely destroy representation of people from lower social classes in our legislature, which under the DSP's proposals would be restricted solely to the rich, who could afford to support themselves from other sources of income. People from less privileged backgrounds, who the DSP claim to support would be unable to stand for political office. The DSP's proposals for a smaller legislature would completely destroy representation of the people, as their elected leaders would be unable to deal with individuals due to being run ragged with overwork. It seems to me that George Butterworth and the DSP have jumped on a bandwagon and are now going to exhaust this avenue until it runs dry. Mariano Delgado PP Leader |

Message | OOC: Yeah, one MP per a million people is a little stingy. In the UK, it's closer to one per a hundred thousand. |
Date | 20:59:49, December 31, 2012 CET | From | Grand National Party | To | Debating the Cutting Spending on Politicians Act |
Message | We fully endorse Mr Delgado's stance and reject the DSP's primitive populism and its despicable attempt to besmirch the assembly as a whole. If Mr Butterworth thinks his salary is to high, no one forces him to accept it. Once again, we find it absolutely loathsome how the socialist faction denounces fellow MPs. Message | OOC: Even our current level is a bit stingy, I would rather we had at least 500 seats. |
Date | 22:55:25, December 31, 2012 CET | From | Popular Party | To | Debating the Cutting Spending on Politicians Act |
Message | Mr Mochimura raises a good point. If Mr Butterworth and other DSP MPs feel that there salaries are too high, then they are under no obligation whatsoever to accept them. Mariano Delgado PP Leader |

Message | OOC: Clever points, CalF IC: Mr. Speaker, we want to attract a type of person into politics who is motivated by principle and not money. We believe it is important that MPs should receive a wage with which they can support themselves, but being an MP shouldn't be seen as a route towards a lucratively-paid career. We believe we are only proposing what the vast majority of the public want. George Butterworth MP (Leader of the DSP) |

Message | Mr Speaker, it is not a contradiction in terms to earn an above-average salary and simultaneously care for general well-being. MP salaries reflect the vast responsibility politicians bear. Kojiro Machimura MP Member for Magadonia GNP Parliamentary Leader |

Message | Mr. Speaker, we oppose this measure on two seperate reasons. One, the reduction of members will hurt the people's voice since each member of parliament would be represent almost a million people each. Two the reduction of salaries could bring corruption into our parliament, since they would pay a lower salary, which would even more tempted to take bribes. Sieffre Sayer MP President of PGR |
