Bill: Passports Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Socialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 3428

Description[?]:

Madam Speaker, travel between different nations and cultures is a fantastic thing. My party is very keen on Dranland being open to the rest of Terra and experiencing what life is like outside our own borders. However, we are concerned about the ease with which it is possible for our citizens to get a passport. Should we really be giving passports, for example, to people who are awaiting trial and want an opportunity to flee the country before being brought to justice? And should we give passports to notorious criminals who only want to go abroad to cause mischief and give Dranland a bad reputation?

MessageMadam Speaker, we should not put all people under general suspicion. According to the principle outlined by the Opposition Leader, we could even proceed to investigate the motives of any citizen to travel within our nation or even leave their homes. Whenever there is evidence for criminal activity, our security forces are quick to take the miscreant down. The increase in security spending - which I strongly approve of - conducted under the Hon. Member's premiership shall not have been for nothing.

MessageMadam Speaker, the awarding of a passport to a Dranish citizenship is saying "The Dranish government is in favour of this person exercising a choice to travel abroad". My point, Madam Speaker, is that in a very small minority of instances, the Dranish government should not approve of allowing someone to leave the country.
