Bill: Civilian National Service Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Democratic Socialist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 3431
Description[?]:
It is considered reasonable to ask citizens to pay taxes, and we believe it is similarly reasonable to ask every Dranish citizen to spend 6 months working for the benefit of their society. Civilian national service will be a great way for our young people to learn new skills, gain confidence, have fun, make new friends and acquire a genuine sense of social responsibility and national belonging. If we introduced civilian national service, just imagine the projects we could accomplish which would otherwise be left undone? Antonio Benandez MP (Leader of the Opposition) |

Message | Mr Speaker, on a voluntary basis, we would highly appreciate a civilian national service, but coercion is, by its nature, always immoral. The leftist believes the ends justify the means, but whenever freedom of will is restricted in favor of what communists use to call "the greater good" - which is in fact government-imposed goals -, tyranny gains ground. Thus, there is no need for six-month left-wing nationalist summer camps. Our young people know about their talents, faculties and desires, and society is best served if we let them do as they will. Message | Mr Speaker, Why should one random group of society be taken and forced into doing something they don't want to do? Petals we should make all women over the age of 32 take part in the scheme, or all DSP voters? We will not support this ridiculous attempt at social engineering and brainwashing by the DSP. Message | Mr Speaker We don't like the idea of forced service and we are opposed to it but as a courtesy to DSP,if this bill meets the threshold with our vote we consider to vote for it Retired Gen. Michelle Maria Sanchez MP from Valdor Defense Spokeswoman for Greens |

Message | Mr. Speaker, tax-payers are "coerced" by the government to pay taxes. Is that "immoral"? Workers are coerced by economic circumstances to offer their labour to employers. Is that "immoral"? Builders are coerced by the government to follow appropriate procedures when they go about building things. Is this "immoral" too? And prisoners are compelled to remain in prisons. Is this also "immoral"? The Grand National Party and the Popular Party demonstrate time after time that they do not understand the reality that far from being isolated individuals, every human being is a part of society. All Dranish live in the same nation; we are all inter-dependent on each other. Whether we like it or not, what I do can affect you and what you do can affect me. In the sophisticated, democratic and responsible society that the DSP is trying to build, we all come together to negotiate how we live together. And to us, it is far from unreasonabe for every person to be asked to dedicate a short period of their life - fairly remunerated, of course - to the service of the community. Message | Madam Speaker, society is not something that politicians can "build" and adjust according to their personal values, but is made up of individuals who all pursue their personal dreams and have their very own ambitions. My party wishes to grant every individual the right to seek satisfaction as he will, without having to sacrifice his liberty for the pleasure of others who wish to impose their idea of justice on them like the DSP is proposing.
