MessageMadam Speaker, as the party of the great Welsh poet Cadfael Maddocks, we would be proud to support this Bill. Dranland needs to do more to encourage the aspirations of young artists.

MessageMadam Speaker,

The PP supports art, in fact we have just commissioned some fantastic new pieces for our headquarters. However, art by it's very nature is a subjective thing, and we should not be using taxpayers' money to pay for a private pleasure. If we are going to fund artists, why should we not fund restaurateurs, racing drivers and model railway clubs? After all, they are all private pleasures, just like art.

MessageMadam Speaker,

we very much agree with the Hon. Member Hargreaves and want to add that if artistic talent is given, museums will be able to generate funds from private art connoisseurs and patrons without major problems. We see no urgent need for intervention here.

MessageMadam Speaker, art greatly enriches our culture and our quality of life...and yet, without state support, many of these great artistic projects would never get off the ground, and many of our great artists would never have been discovered. If we want Dranish society to take full and proper advantage of what the arts have to offer, then we need some state subsidies to the arts.

MessageMadam Speaker,
The bill asks that the government subsidise not individual artists but art schools and small galleries. Thus artists won't be getting the dole except maybe for art school fees while galleries will gain the most and this will encourage Dranland to appreciate the arts more.
