MessageMr Speaker,

How do the DSP propose to pay for this massive spending rise? Would they like already struggling families to be forced to go without food to pay for some shiny new aircraft carriers? Or perhaps, they would prefer pensioners to be forced to turn off the heating this winter so we can plant more trees? It's all very well for the DSP to propose massive budget increases, but we already have a budget deficit in Dranland and presenting plans like this with no indication of how they are supposed to be funded without punishing our already hard-pressed citizens will not present a very good portrayal of the DSP's economic policies to the voters.

MessageMr Speaker,

According to recent press reports, there are currently financial problems within the Democratic Socialist Party. How can the Hon. Finance Minister be trusted to control taxpayers' money when he can not even keep his own party's finances in order?

MessageOOC: Dranland actually has a budget surplus at the moment, thanks to our income tax rise. This budget will gobble up almost all of the surplus, though!

MessageMadam Speaker, this budget is carefully costed and will not plunge Dranland into any massive budget deficit. We have already increased government revenues through our tax reforms. The question the opponents of this Bill need to ask themselves is why it is that at a time when terrorism and crime are serious threats, they are opposing our plan to properly fund the Dranish police and security forces? Once again we see that the right-wing parties are soft on crime and soft on the causes of crime.

Madam Speaker, I also deplore Melissa Hargreaves' attempt to make cheap political points at the expense of the difficulties the DSP is currently going through. The DSP is a victim in this - a victim of a capitalist society which does not value hard-working political contributors who refuse to take instructions from millionaires and big corporations. We are in financial trouble precisely because we are a party of integrity which does not sell out to the economic elite.

MessageMadam Speaker, I think Melissa Hargreaves makes some interesting points, and I wonder whether she would discuss them over dinner with me later tonight?

MessageMadam Speaker

We like these increases but no increase on education budget is a non starter for us, we will vote for it but we will increase taxes a little but just for education, if Honourable Member agrees and allows us to handle that.

MessageMadam Speaker, along with Gwendolyn Maddocks, we would also like to increase the education budget, and would be more than happy to support further tax increases in order to achieve that goal.
