Description[?]:
We find it deeply saddening that our preliminary proposal has not been appropriately responded to by the legislative authorities, and feel obligated to continue pushing for what we know to be Right. Expect many more such proposals until we feel we have achieved our goals. This particular bill is an attempt to return values, discipline, honor and respect to our schools. Let us stop corrupting the weakest among us with vile values. |

Message | We cannot agree to the total abolition of sexual education and the reintroduction of the possibility of corporal punishment. Such would be un-Hosian. Also, we'd rather not that students be made to sing the national anthem, though we would like it to be played at school commencement for what it represents. |

Message | "The ban on corporal punishment absolutely must remain. Children learn better in an environment where they do not have to fear harsh punishments. While we agree that, in general, specific punishments should be determined at the local level (preferably by individual schools), the AF will not endorse any proposal that allows for corporal punishment. Sexual education is a vital part of a school's curriculum, as it teaches students to be responsible for their sexual behavior. As individual students have the ability to opt out for religious reasons, we fail to see how maintaining sexual education in the curriculum is an affront to one's religious beliefs. We have also established during the previous term that we do not wish for the national anthem to be played or sung at the commencement of each school day, as we feel it is unnecessary." -Klaus Horiuchi, Minister of Education and Culture |

Message | Mr. Speaker, we agree with the necessity of the abolition of corporal punishment - children should never have to fear violent punishments being meted out against them. It is dangerous, it is abusive, and it is grossly hypocritical. We also find it difficult to endorse any proposal which seeks to ban sexual education, which is a necessary part of the education of a child going through physical and psychological changes. We will therefore oppose this legislation. Paul Hiebsch MR (DZP) |
