Bill: Gift of Life Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Radical Democratic Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2156
Description[?]:
We believe the right to life is the most important one. Therefore, we will make organ donation universal and compulsory. We hope this Act will only apply in extreme cases. The implied consent rule means that, most of the time, physicians will not need to harvest organs against the wishes of the patient or her family. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy concerning organ donations.
Old value:: Unless otherwise stated, consent is assumed.
Current: Organ donations are legal with personal consent.
Proposed: Organ donation is universal and compulsory.

Message | This doesn't seem to take into account local mores or religious beliefs. |

Message | We are supporters of the proposed policy. |
Date | 01:16:53, December 14, 2005 CET | From | Radical Democratic Party | To | Debating the Gift of Life Act |
Message | In response to the NWP, we don't ignore local mores or religious beliefs. However, protection of life is even more important. |
Date | 03:10:40, December 14, 2005 CET | From | Conscientious Citizen's Party | To | Debating the Gift of Life Act |
Message | Protection of our citizens is most important. While we can presume consent, if a citizen will not consent, based on religious beliefs, we should respect that decision. After all the individual citizen IS the government. |
Date | 06:11:14, December 14, 2005 CET | From | Inrala no Ikolowagitou (Green) | To | Debating the Gift of Life Act |
Message | There is no shortage of suitable organs, so no valid argument from necessity. The right of self-determination should prevail. We are opposed. |
Date | 16:42:46, December 14, 2005 CET | From | Radical Democratic Party | To | Debating the Gift of Life Act |
Message | We do not expect this law to apply under normal circumstances. We are proposing it in case of extreme circumstances, such as war or natural disasters. And in these cases, the right of life should prevail. |
Date | 00:33:59, December 15, 2005 CET | From | Inrala Panjoregu Kiokutou (DPP) | To | Debating the Gift of Life Act |
Message | This proposal is an infringement of the rights of the deceased. We suggest instead that government incentives should be used to attract potential donors as a long-term scheme, rather than an immediate seizure of organs from unconsenting deceased in the event of a shortfall |
Date | 01:01:07, December 15, 2005 CET | From | idek Party | To | Debating the Gift of Life Act |
Message | The current law is assuming enough. It sets the burden on those whose personal beiiefs, be they religous or otherwise prevent them from taking part. Although our party is secular, we would not want anyone to feel that their family members were eternally damned because their body was desicrated. |
