Bill: Pension reform act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Freedom Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 3451

Description[?]:

Since many people today go without having pensions, thanks to the state pension being voluntary, just like the private ones. This is unacceptable and cannot go on. The Werin Da proposes a combination of the best of the two systems: make joining the pension system obligatory for all citizens, but hand it's management over to private entrepreneurs. In this way we shall ensure both the universality and the effectiveness of the system.

MessageMadam Speaker, we support the principle of making it compulsory for people to save for their old age. Otherwise, with people living longer and longer, we will sleepwalk into a crisis where growing numbers of people cannot afford to maintain themselves in old age. We would prefer a public pension system rather than a multitude of private schemes, but despite this reservation, we will support this Bill as an improvement upon the status quo.

MessageMadam Speaker, if some individuals prefer to save up for their retirement without purchasing any kind of pension scheme, they should be permitted to do so as a part of their autonomy. Coercion is not a viable way of targeting the issue of retirement, neither in public nor private sector-based concepts.

MessageMadam Speaker, many people need to be "nudged" a little, or else they will not voluntarily put aside the necessary savings for their retirement. This is why we accept the element of compulsion proposed here.

We would support a compulsory system because without them then there might be no competetion or much more less gains through the fund but what we oppose is that pension funds privitization.
