MessageMadam Speaker, we would prefer a national immigration policy, but nevertheless, we can support this Bill as an overall package.

MessageMadam Speaker,

Far from being "extremely mild" as the WD claim, this bill would in fact destroy Dranland's reputation as a liberal, tolerant nation. Numerous studies have shown the enormous benefits immigrants bring to our nation, not only economically but also the great cultural diversity they allow us to have. This article of the bill would do enormous damage to Dranish society. We also do not see the WD's objection to foreign aid. This makes up an extremely small part of our overall budget and prevents us from having to spend much more money to solve problems in the future- aid allows us to prevent problems occurring g in the first place. We are also very concerned about article 1 of this bill. We have already seen the problems that can be caused by extreme elements of parties targeting certain ethnic groups- just imagine what would happen if these elements had the power to deal with people fleeing from persecution in their home countries. We would urge other parties to seriously consider what their backing of this bill would mean for Dranland's economy and society, as well as its reputation overseas.

MessageMadame Speaker,

Let us be clear on one thing, this bill is an extremely mild one. Most nations regulate their immigration, and no one will raise an eyebrow for having us doing so in a very moderate way. There are a lot of nations with far, far stricter policies that you never hear being called intolerant because of their immigration policies, take Deltaria or Lodamun for examples, who both not only regulate their immigration but also have racial quotas as well. Most normal people think of a nations immigration policy as belonging to it's internal affairs, and the only ones who could condemn Dranland for having a very moderate such policy are extremists who's opinions we would never consider in any case.

Speaking of studies, various studies also show how harmful foreign aid for the economy of developing countries, and the Werin Da party line is to cut foreign aid except for disaster relief and microcredits. There is an old saying telling us that to feed a man, one should not give him a fish, but teach him to fish, and he will never go hungry again.

We do agree that letting local governments handle illegal immigration is not necessarily an ideal option, but it's better than not dealing with the issue at all. People who are here illegally are criminals. Comparing criminals with with people fleeing from persecution is gravely insulting to all real refugees, and I demand Mrs. Hargreaves to apologise to all the real refugees that have found shelter in our sacred realm for even suggesting such a thing.

MessageMadam Speaker,

While Ms. Hargreaves has named the advantages of immigration, she has neglected to name the disadvantages. The uncontrolled influx of unskilled immigrants is hurting Dranland's lowest paid as these immigrants are pushing down wages due to their will to work for far less than Dranish workers would normally accept. The vast increase in population in some cities is raising the cost of housing and kicking the poor and lower middle class too. Fake refugees are a drain on our social services with the current free for all refugee system.

The LOL opposes mass migration for these reasons, we do not support racialism like some do and support controlled immigration of people with skills that Dranland is short of not unskilled workers.

MessageMadam Speaker, we share the concerns about immigration expressed by Dr. Juana Sucre. Immigration needs to be regulated if we are to maximise its benefits and limit its drawbacks. However, we also take on board Melissa Hargreaves' point about the disadvantages of leaving it up to local governments to deal with illegal immigration issues.
