Message | Mr Speaker, GM crops are rightly controversial and we can't just allow them into our food supply with rigorous enough testing and research. We prefer lifting the ban on research but not on production or selling Edna Bowen SSM Leader |

Message | We prefer an incremental law change, by allowing the selling of GM Crops but still prohibiting production. There is no reason to both jeopardize our environment, by allowing production, and our health by allowing selling if you can avoid so. By allowing just one, we can limit the consequences in case it is discovered that GM food is bad for one's health. Miguel Alvarez, MP Spokesperson for Ecology & Environmental issues |

Message | Mr. Speaker, I understand the concern expressed by Miguel Alvarez. I and my party are convinced of the scientific evidence that GM techniques are safe and good for agriculture. Although I wish it were possible to compromise with him on this issue, the difficulty we have with his suggestion is that allowing the importation of GM food whilst forbidding its production in Dranland would subject Dranish farmers to unfair competition and make us less food independent as a nation. Message | Mr, Speaker, thankfully we have a safety net for our farmers in form of high agricultural subsidies. We do not believe that the farmers will be threatened by GM imports. Ibid. |
