Message | Monsieur le président, As it stands, the government of the Republic is authorised to extradite citizens without regulation. There are no real or meaningful legal limitations on the power of the Government to sent citizens abroad for trial in countries where they could face torture, inhumane treatment or the death penalty - all things expressly prohibited by our own legal code. In light of a recent survey showing that nearly two-thirds of Aldurians support imposing legal limits on extradition powers, and the fact that more than half of all Aldurians believe extradition should be either prohibited or forbidden when dealing with countries that practice torture and capital punishment, the Government proposes to formally end the practice of extradition. Message | Honorable Speaker, While we agree with your assumptions to an extent we must also look at the Foreign Relation backlash this new bill will cause. For instance, a mass murder kills 5 to 12 people in another country, they then fly here and live a nice life. The foreign country finds enough evidence to prove beyound a shadow of a doubt that this person commited the crimes. Are you saying we should keep said murder here living a life of luxury when they can prove he killed several people? What if a man in this country then kills says, a few politicians family members and flees to that country and we want them sent back for trial. Now we have entered a problem that ends with neither nation winning and only the murders would win. At this point and time we can not agree with this bill. |
