Bill: Withdrawal from Inactive/Defunct Treaties

Details

Submitted by[?]: Drania Cívica 🏴 시민당

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3497

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

The Foreign Ministry has reviewed the treaties for which the Republic is a signatory. We have determined that there are treaties which are no longer active; and some in which we are the only signatory, therefore removing much meaning to the documents.

We propose the formal withdrawal from all defunct and inactive treaties.

Rhee Seung-uk
Foreign Minister

MessageMr. Speaker,

I would like to know why the Foreign Minister thinks we should withdraw from the United Nations of Terra Charter?

MessageMr. Speaker,

As has been explained, these treaties are defunct. There is no United Nations of Terra and there are no attempts at changing that fact. Even while there are a few other signatories to the treaty, it doesn't change the fact that the UNT treaty does nothing. So long as the UNT is dormant and so long as the majority of the world remains non-signatories, the treaty will be meaningless. We see no reason to believe that the majority of the world will sign the treaty any time in the near future and the UNT, like other past attempts at international organizations, will not happen. This treaty has no bearing, it is defunct.
