Bill: Education Funding Act, 3513
Details
Submitted by[?]: Democratic Progressive Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 3514
Description[?]:
Mr. Speaker, the DPP believes that private schools ought to receive funding from the government. This is because subsidies for individual students are less than the cost of educating a child in the public education system. Therefore, by using subsidies to lower the price of private education, we will attract more students into the private education system, which will cut costs for the government, meaning that, in effect, private school-educated children will be subsidising the education of public school students. The surplus funds resulting from the implementation of such a policy could be spent on the public education system, resulting in better results for students in both school systems. Thus, by subsidising private schools, far from engaging in corporatism or unduly favouring the privileged, we will be fostering a greater equality of opportunity. Everyone will be better off. Message | Mr Speaker, if we want government assistance for private schools, we should introduce a voucher system wherein parents can choose to send their children to any private school they want. In the proposed system, however, government would be in charge of determining which schools qualify for being funded, which we oppose. Takeshi Shimoto MP Member for Elbian RFR Education Spokesman |
