| The Cosmopolitan Alliance feels that the continuing deportation of illegal immigrants is causing great harm and distress to certain sections of our society, and would rather the government takes a different approach in this area. While the Alliance applauds the government's official policy of not actively searching for illegal aliens, we feel that an official policy of deportation where they are uncovered is unreasonable. Many of these illegal aliens have been in Jelbania for years, have built lives here and contributed immensely to our society. These people should be given encouragement to stay and further integrate into Jelbanian society. Others are vulnerable people living on the margins of society - with few of the rights and protections that we all take for granted. We are not actively searching to deport these people, but nor are we trying to help them, either. Instead they remain in a state of legal limbo where rather than engaging with authorities they try to hide from them - a situation that cannot continue. We feel that a policy of sending these people to integration centres in the event they are uncovered will help with social and economic cohesion, improve their lives and help build a more stable society. |
