Bill: Polygamy Act of 3514
Details
Submitted by[?]: Krsyijkai Jeztri Prta
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 3515
Description[?]:
We believe that refusing to officially recognise the marital union between a man and his second and subsequent wives is tantamount to discrimination against the adherents of Queranzariah. We would call on the government to therefore adopt a more permissive stance towards a man taking multiple brides. |

Message | We support this bill as we feel it respects time honoured religious traditions amongst some of our more nomadic people, whilst also reflecting the more pluralistic & diverse nature of our modern society. While we certainly do not advocate or promote polygamous marriages in any way, we accept that in the real world they do exist, and that these family structures should be accorded the same rights as others, whether they are based on one head patriarch or an empowered female with three husbands. This law will improve the lives not only of rural wanderers on the plains of Perimor, but also modern, liberal families in urbane Wasqueville, TU. We must, however, register some concern that more cannot be done to protect women and men in abusive relationships. If possible authorities should step up efforts to combat domestic abuse and receive appropriate training when dealing with these delicate situations. |

Message | Our party cannot sign off on this policy, however we would be willing to allow local governments to decide their own laws as regards to polygamy. The nomadic minorities who inhabit our Empire should be allowed to honour their traditions so long as such traditions are mutually respected by all spouses and do not bear any emotional or physical harm. |
