Message | What would be accomplished by this? The countries we have seen in the past, which had direct laws saying that certain groups in society (or all people in a society) were required to carry identity cards at all times, have done so for very malicious and oppressive reasons. We can not see how such an instrument of tracking could be used for the people, but only how it could be used against the people. |

Message | This bill does not propose that drivers carry their licenses at all times - It proposes that all citizens, whether walking, driving, swimming or crawling carry their government-issued identification cards. Drivers licenses are not government issued, as only those who have taken driving tests have them. The only purpose this law serves is to control and spy on citizens. It will lead to less political and civil freedom, as policemen will now be able to add legal activities to your record. Any sense of anonymousity is lost. Let's say you are a member of an alcoholics anonymous association? Would you then like policemen to be able to identify you even if you have not done anything wrong, and there is no reason to suspect that you have done anything wrong? This kind of overview has been widely abused in other countries. People with radical political beliefs (which are not illegal to have), have been refused employment, because the employer could see in their records that they had these political beliefs. If the police believes that you are a threat, or that you have violated the laws of our country, they can take you to the station, and have you identified if you refuse to do so yourself. For the love of freedom, do not let this vote pass. |

Message | We are against. It violates civil liberties. |

Message | The purpouse of an identification card is to be able to identify people. If the people do not carry the card then they can simply claim to be someone else and walk away. Let us use what we have to the maximum instead of creating laws simply to not gain any benefit of it. |

Message | If people are not doing anything wrong, they do not need to be indentitifed. If they are doing something wrong, they will be held by the police who can find the identity. This is a gross violation of our civil rights. The cards do serve a purpose for those who wish to be identified, for example concerning hospital visits, or if they attend entertainment which restricts people under a certain age. |

Message | A national driver's license is the same thing as a national ID card. The proposal does not say that all citizens are stopped on the street and made to identify themselves. It says that if a citizen is stopped with justifiable cause, they must be able to identify themselves. Being required to identify yourself is not a violation of anyone's civil rights. If you seriously think it is, try it the next time you are pulled over by a police officer. |
Date | 20:08:35, December 21, 2005 CET | From | National Thomasian Party | To | Debating the Positive Identification Act |
Message | you don't need a driving license, because you don't have to take a driving test. |
Date | 10:53:24, December 22, 2005 CET | From | Socialist Front of Mordusia | To | Debating the Positive Identification Act |
Message | Nowhere does this law state that it requires "justifiable cause" to have citizens identify themselves. If you can do not indentify yourselves, you will be brought to the police station for identification. If there is reason to believe you have done something wrong, the police will take you to the station. If there is no reason to believe you have done anything wrong, they will let you go. If a citizen has done nothing wrong, and there is no reason to believe he has done anything wrong, there is no justification for having him identify himself. |
