The Democratic Union propose to adjust the government's spending budget to better address the economic and social situation of the Commonwealth of Rutania, and for spending the surplus in the Rutanian People.

How will we spend every RUT that we add to the budget:

Foreign Affairs (9% more): Embassies, official trips, meetings, diplomatic staff.
Justice (40% more): Hiring more judges and administrative helpers to make justice faster and more efficient.
Infrastructure and Transport (16% more): Building new highways, rails and airports; appropiate mantainance of the current infrastructures.
Education and Culture (22% more): Building new schools, raising teachers' salaries, hiring more teachers to reduce pupils per class quota.
Science and Technology (17% more): Pushing research in Rutania.
Food and Agriculture (18% more): Raising farmers' subsidies in order to improve their life conditions and reduce food price.

Mr. Speaker

We generally support the MLR's budget proposal of reducing government spending. However, we just propose as a COMPROMISE to reinstate the extra spending on Science, Technology, and Education and REDUCE spending on INTERNAL AFFAIRS as that is an agency that infringes on the CIVIL LIBERTIES of Rutanian citizens.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The government is currently operating under a budget surplus. Either the budget must be increased or taxes reduced. The DU's proposal is a far saner alternative to the MLR's, which would gut essential government services that keep Rutania in the lead in the technology industry and ahead of the race in the quality of life.

On a different note, Rutania is one of the freest countries in Terra. The "infringements" the Ministry of Internal Affairs cause is minimal and utterly negligible compared to the benefits it delivers--such as a police force that keeps dangerous people off the streets, and firefighters that ensure large areas of Rutania aren't consigned to the flames. It is also important to note that we do not have a national police force that can be used as political police, as some nation's are wont to do.

A budget increase is a great way to solve the government's surplus problem. Rutania's population has grown, and government services must keep up with this growth.

The budget proposed by the DU shows wise spending increases in critical areas. We support this budget.
