Bill: Anti-Defamation Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Civic Democratic Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 3534
Description[?]:
The Civic Democratic Party does not feel that freedom of speech is the same as the freedom of hate speech. We have individuals who have publicly insulted and attacked various groups for their perceived failings, and we now have reports that this hate speech is linked to attacks on our citizens. Speech, and the ability to freely speak one's mind, is something that Dranland holds dear. We do not think that Dranland holds the right to incite violence as dear, which is why the Civic Democratic Party proposes the following reform. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Slander laws.
Old value:: Individuals may sue over malicious falsehoods spoken about them.
Current: Individuals may sue over malicious falsehoods spoken about them.
Proposed: Individuals may sue over falsehoods and defamatory opinions spoken about them, if judged to be malicious.

Message | Mr Speaker We need to be reasonable. Some people's fame and reputation is their source of income and attack on that reputation is just an attack on their economical freedoms. I believe this common sense will pass this parliament. Ethan Kresteva MP Leader of DD |
Date | 22:33:45, August 21, 2013 CET | From | The Good | To | Debating the Anti-Defamation Act |
Message | Mr Speaker, This is truly one shameful day. The day when freedom of speech was fully abolished. The tyranny of this parliament is complete - fundamental individual liberties will no longer exist in reality, they can be scrapped altogether if these political broilers object. Eric Stronghold The Good Tanist |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Does the Good not believe in our justice system? This act does not forbid someone from stating their mind, but if they do so in a malicious way towards another person, it will be taken to the courts. The courts will be the final judge on such matters, not the government. Jonathan Bradford Leader of the Civic Democratic Party |
