Message | With these proposals, nicknamed as "Economy Plan #1" we want to make Aldegar a prosperous nation, proud of its workers and competitve for foreign investors! |
Date | 19:31:11, October 10, 2013 CET | From | The National Front (NF) | To | Debating the Economy Plan #1 |
Message | The National Front can agree with the general purpose of the bill; however, after discussions within the party, we cannot support Article 3. The costs to the government of lowering the retirement age would be enormous with the current pension scheme in place. If anything, this bill should seek to raise the retirement age in face of the fact that our citizens are living longer than in the past. |

Message | The purpose of article 3 is to actually reduce unemployment and thus reduce the cost of unemployment benefits by people retiring quicker. Therefore we find your argument invalid. |

Message | I do not believe that the Right Honorable member of the Free Market Party understands the mechanics of unemployment. A lowering of the retirement age will drive people out of the workforce; the majority of those will be working people, not unemployed people. Unemployment is low as it is. A lower retirement age will simply mean a decrease in the working population and an *increase* in those using our retirement pension system. In effect, this will be a much larger drag on our budget than it will be a savings. If the distribution of unemployment benefits overall diminishes as a result of this bill, it will be outweighed by a rather large upswing in our distribution of retirement benefits to pensioners, thus negating the savings altogether. Again, the National Front urges the opposite - we must raise the official retirement age. The proposal to reduce the retirement age is shortsighted and, quite plainly, wrong. Our citizens are living longer than they ever have, and thus we are setting our nation up for rapidly increasing spending in retirement pensions and *not* a reduction in unemployment as the Free Market Party claims. Please take this into consideration before the final vote is called, members of Parliament. Victor Carlyle (NF) Leader of the Opposition |
