Description[?]:

It's about time we have an official speaker,
I approached my new party leader today and asked if she'd back me for the role,
"Certainly not Turner, you're not just young, you're far too young, a speaker ought to be virtually senile"
-Laughter-
"If you were elected it would be a disaster for the house and a disaster for yourself"
She said that, and jokingly slammed down the phone.

Of course, there have been many Speakers in the past much younger than I, many of whom have got their way into the cabinet, hint hint.
-Laughter-
My point is, honorable members, I do not want to be someone, I want to do something.

I believe I can uphold this great institution and reform where I may, to preserve our traditions, and to keep our house up to date with contemporary 36th Century practices.

I think we need to move on the debate, from who controls a city police force, into the future of this house. Unless we do so, the legislature cannot be effective whilst suffering from increasing scorn.

The three reasons i'm fighting this campaign is: one, because I have the support of many citizens from around the nation including a vast majority in my home province of Valdor. Two, we need reform in the house, we are not corrupt but much of our once civil debate and conversation has been smeared by cheap cusses from the Government and its opposition. Parliament needs more accountablity, we need an organised parliament that respects its constituents who voted us in. Thirdly, the next Speaker must insure that honorable members and citizens alike are not treated unfairly, this may be a challenge however I believe I can resolve this effectively. The idea in giving back benchers more of a say is a concept I believe I can strengthen by enforcing comments from at least one back bencher per debate.

Politicians have been asking to restore parliamentary authority and to stop it being a free for all in which nothing can get done, i'm regularly approached about this by constituents. I will restore that authority and make sure any successor of mine can carry it on through all time itself.

I will ensure that a fairer debate and scrutiny is put on the budgets and cabinet proposals, and make sure a proper debate is achieved in each piece of legislation. Ministers must be obliged to give key information on policy changes in each debate in this chamber here.

If elected I would be a tireless advocate for our political relevance. So finally I turn to a world beyond Igelsia Mayor, a new speaker must become an ambassador and an advocate for parliament and our democracy, we need to reconnect with the society in which we seek to represent. I will be comfortable to both be a speaker, and a listener.

And I must make it clear I make no apology for any views I have expressed or causes I have supported in the past. Some, may be in compatible with others
-Laughter-
over a period as many of my collegaues have been quick to point out. But any man can acquire wisdom and change his views over time. But in debate a speaker's own preferences must be cast aside for years I have always been passionate about parliament and our democracy, and now I am involved I feel ready for leadership, I believe we can rebuild the trust and restore our reputation but only if we learn from our mistakes of the past and agree to correct them in the future.

It is an honour, with out equal to sit in this house. I am the clean break candidate for speaker, I can help this house to meet the challenges ahead, and the changes ahead and we do need change. We need change permanantly and we need change now. I can deliver it to you, only if you give me the opportunity.

Random fact: Don't put "the" as the first word in your party name, because when parties are referred to in news reports, their names are preceded with "the", e.g. the [Socialist Party] has lost.
