Message | Leaving the government with its hand on the media is like the fox guarding the proverbial hen house. We feel that the proper role is for the media to be ruled by the market. OOC: as noted on the Internet Regs Bill I am a n00b, bear with me as I get up to speed on this... |

Message | Well, I still feel that we should atleast subsidise. Subsidising doesnt mean that we own them. They are still private companies but allowing subsidising is in ouw views good |

Message | Subsidising non-profit TV & Radio would not not prevent private broadcasters from advocating any position. Why is it good for the government to blindly throw money at companies that would normally either provide programming that would make them profitable or fail because they do not meet the markets needs. Also how independent is the media if it is in part paid for by the government it is supposed to cover. Even if you believe the governments current role is completely benign, those in power will not always remain in power. We believe in removing all temptation and pathways to tyranny from the hands of government. |

Message | Tyranny from the hands of the government...This is what you believe has been happening here!! I don't believe the governments post the fascist and autocratic regimes can be clubbed for their good work into such terms! Just having government subsidy doesn't mean the media is 'arm-twisted' to broadcast any independent position. If you have a look at all the media laws, may be you'd understand 'preventing anyone from broadcasting anything' isn't the government's business, and the present law doesn't prohibit anyone from doing their responsible media work. Your accusations are completely baseless and lack truth. So, we condemn your thoughts, and reject this proposal with no further deliberations considering how all of us have been put in such bad light! |
