Message | Herr Präsident, As Frau Schultz and her colleagues observed, there is currently a huge surplus running on our budget. As our surplus has as good as paid off our national debts, there is no reason except for the surety of being able to intervene without deficit spending on unforeseen circumstances to have a surplus. Therefore, the current budget greatly reduces the surplus. The government has reviewed spending, and as the House can see, we have increased spending across the board, for a total of 135 billion crowns out of our 150 billion surplus. In earlier debates on the matter, I promised to review taxation. However, as the first tax bracket is already at quite a high level, a further hike would not achieve the aims we intended to achieve. The budget sees several substantial increases. The Justice budget has been increased substantially in order to bear the costs of the new policy of funding all legal representation in criminal trials adopted by the last Diet. Furthermore, in order to keep operating our military at a level comparable to our neighbours, a further increase in the Defence budget was necessary as we were currently even falling behind our northern neighbours, which would in the long run undermine our position as a guardian of peace and security in North Dovani. Infrastructural spending has been quintupled in order to fund new infrastructural projects, particularly an initiative the Minister of Foreign Affairs is working on concerning continental transport links. We have also increased the Science and Technology budget in line with our ambition to develop a knowledge economy, and to support the emerging technological industries in Gao-Soto. sr. ehrw. Klaus Marlberge, MdR (HDV - Budenlar) Vize-Staatsminister und Finanzminister (OOC: The budget system is totally whack for some reason. The lowest tax bracket starts at twice our GDP per capita, which madness but being a right-wing party I cannot do anything IC to fix it. In terms of spending levels, we're far behind our neighbours in Dranland. Possibly this is due to lack of maintenance. If you like, perhaps we could grandfather some OOC adjustments so that the right does not get into a problem with people going all populist like "YOU GUYS ARE RAISING TAXES, RAAAH YOU COMMIES" but the nation's finances do attain a more realistic level.) |
