Bill: Public Libraries Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Aldurian Communist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 3610
Description[?]:
If let up strictly to local communities, the People's Progressive Party fears that some communities will be left with libraries that receive minimum funding or may not receive any funding at all. It is our position that every man, woman, and child should have access to libraries that are up to date with the newest books (both academic and recreational) as well as computers and internet access. We present the following proposal to ensure that this is the case. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy towards the funding of libraries.
Old value:: Funding and operation of libraries is left entirely to local governments.
Current: The national government controls a vast and comprehensive system of public libraries.
Proposed: The national government contracts with private companies to maintain a system of libraries.

Message | We do not support this bill as we feel that the national government has already taken on recent initiatives to further education. Although there is no such thing as too much education, this is one thing the local governments should "foot the bill". We also do not like the idea of private companies getting involved with libraries. |

Message | We don't support privatising libraries; we would support an expansion of state funding for libraries. |
Date | 09:44:31, January 20, 2014 CET | From | Republican Party (GOP) | To | Debating the Public Libraries Act |
Message | We are against this. If an Etat doesn't want to fund libraries why should we force them? |
Date | 10:07:00, January 20, 2014 CET | From | aRmée réVolutioNnaire dAdaïSte | To | Debating the Public Libraries Act |
Message | Same as Green Party. Nayionalised libraries are the garant of plurality |
Date | 06:37:44, January 21, 2014 CET | From | Religious Workers' Party | To | Debating the Public Libraries Act |
Message | This library initiative is just one more example of big government trying to take over more responsibilities of smaller communities. This bill passing would leave thousands of local library employees out of work and lead to the disappearance of books about local history and culture from the shelves. |

Random fact: It is not allowed to call more than 5 elections in 5 game years in a nation. The default sanction for a player persisting in the early election tactic will be a seat reset. |
Random quote: "Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people." - Tenche Coxe |
