Bill: Säkularen Recht

Details

Submitted by[?]: Die Sozialdemokraten

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 3615

Description[?]:

We social liberals (unlike certain LINOs) deeply believe in a firm separation of church and state. We have nothing against Hosianism nor anything for it. We don't want our children, be they Daenists, atheists or agnostic Hosians to be think that they are inferior and that one religion is superior simply because it is the declared official one, voluntary or not. It's not good for tolerance either. Religions shouldn't be exempt from taxes either, no special favours for no one as all should be equal. This exemption also looks suspiciously like a potentially easy method for tax evaders.

MessageHerr Präsident,

once again the social liberals completely misinterpret liberalism. Anti-religious populism disguised as secularism is quite the opposite of liberalism, especially if it comes with more taxes.

MessageHerr Präsident,

This is true liberalism, equality for all. Why should two religions simply because they are adhered to by the majority be considered supreme or get special tax privileges? If we were truly populists, we would not be challenging a creed held to by 65% of our people and 21% in Gao Soto in total about 86% of the population even if only a minority are active worshipers.

MessageHerr Präsident,

Both the people in Hulstria and those in Gao-Soto are our people, but that's quite beside the point. Frau Schumer does herself no credit by her ignorance of our laws - Kamism is the state religion of Gao-Soto and it holds a similarly major position in the society of the Kunihito part of our people. We will always stand for religious freedom, and we will always stand for the special role religion has to play in our society. That includes the recognition of the Luthoran Church and Kamism as dual state religions.

MessageHerr Präsident,

Well, equality based religious freedom and state enforced supremacy can never go together. What about the 14% who do not subscribe to the official religions and I suspect a considerable of those who are baptised or enrolled against their will or consent as infants and never bother to practice the religion? Doesn't equality count to them? The State has no business recognising certain religions as official while ignoring others. The only other way to resolve this is to declare all religious beliefs official, including atheism..
