Message | Herr Präsident, this bill undermines its own purpose. It is not enough to diversify the ownership structure of the national power grip for competition to ensue, there also needs to be sufficient economic freedom and a marketplace undistorted by governmental overreach - partially nationalizing power stations to produce below the market price will only create losses which will have to be shouldered by the taxpayer, and will also discourage private contenders since they do not have unlimited access to the taxpayers' purse to bail them out whenever they don't abide to market rules. An additional regime of price controls only reinforces this disincentive. Harald Matsuyama, MdR LVP-Budenlar Vize Staatsminister |

Message | Herr Präsident, The bill is not perfect, true enough but Article 1 will distort the energy market no more than the current subsidies and will also assist middle income earners. We unfortunately do not share the conviction of our rightwing cousins that Government interference is always destructive to the economy and in this case, it will certainly stabilise energy prices, our main concern anyway.
