Bill: Daatman Cabinet Proposal of June 2161

Details

Submitted by[?]: Radical Freedom Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2164

Description[?]:

This cabinet includes the parties that supported the election of Federal President Jan Willem Daatman for Rutanian Federal President.

The RFP as the largest party claims four ministerial positions. The other parties in the proposal (RDSP, Nationalists and Veritaserum) have about the same size and therefore they have been given three ministerial posts.

Negotiation about who-gets-what is possible, but the Federal President feels strongly that this is the best division.

The RFP wishes to "finish the job" on the Finance department and lead the budget proposals through the Federal Parliament. It also claims the Head of Government, as the largest party, and the Defence ministry to continue to guide the Naval reform programmes of the current government. The RFP would also like Education as a typical liberal department.

The Nationalists have been given the "hard investment" departments of Infrastructure and Transport, Environment and Tourism and Science and Technology where they can represent the interests of their voters well.

The RSDP will get another shot at reforming Rutanian Foreign Policy in the Foreign Ministry. The other departments they have been given are also typically social-democratic: Health and Social Services and Trade and Industry are good departments that we hope the RSDP will use well.

Veritaserum, finally, will be able to guide Food and Agriculture, Internal Affairs and the Justice department.

MessageOOC: for anyone who managed to miss this on the main board...

IC:
Statement by fourth-term Federal President Jan Willem Daatman on the result of the elections, to the RFP caucus:

Citizens, Rutanians, fellow Party members...

I am very glad to have been re-elected into this fine office of Federal President of this Great Republic. The presidential race has been exciting as always, but the arguments were always fair and I'd like to congratulate Till Lindemann of the Freedom Party and all the other candidates on having run a great race.

With this election over I'd also like to thank all those five million Rutanians who voted for the RFP; but especially those in our 'home states' of Kragusrov and Khodor. It is with special fondness that I observe that from this night on our yellow banner of Liberty flies over the political maps of those two states once more. As President, I am also proud of the accomplishments of those other states which have been carried by parties friendly to the RFP. The fine socialists up in Bozarland, the Libertarians in Ardinia and the gains of the Freedom Party down south in Delvar are to be commended.

The negative spell on our electoral results apprears to be over. The curse of the RFP, it seems, has finally worn out now that our party has been able to prove its worth as a full member of in government. The RFP is all about taking responsibility, and delivering results. And the results, my fellow liberals, speak for themselves. The tide has turned on regulation of personal issues... on civil liberties. This New Year, my own children will be playing with fireworks again. It is perhaps a little thing, but it is but an example of the accomplishments of the last four years. The last government has been one of the most constructive cabinets in recent decades, and if I can speak on a personal note also one of the most pleasant ones. It is with fondness that I look back on it. I fully hope to continue the constructive attitude the RFP and the Freedom Coalition parties have shared in the last four years.

However, irregardless of my warm personal feelings towards my fellow members of government I feel that it is time to put this election in perspective. The parties that supported my bid for Federal President have obtained a majority in the parliament. Even more - those parties that supported my bid for President have *all* won, and those parties supporting the Freedom Party have been punished by the voters. The exception to this rule, I should admit honestly to you, is the Liberal Imperialist Party which has made some small gains but which is nevertheless the smallest party in the new Federal Parliament.

It would therefore in our opinion only be honest to the Rutanian voter to bring these parties to government. It would also be honest to the people who campaigned for me despite not being Liberal themselves. Socialists, Progressive Centrists and Nationalists have endorsed the cause of Liberty despite four years of sometimes difficult opposition. We are therefore morally oblidged, I feel, to attempt to form a government with them.

But tonight, we celebrate! Bring out the champagne! Sing, dance, make merry! And speaking of merry, I wish a merry Christmas to all of you!

Not if you keep up your support for the RSDP.

"Socialists, Progressive Centrists and Nationalists have endorsed the cause of Liberty despite four years of sometimes difficult opposition."

Oh sure, those socialists are total freedom-lovers with their no-drugs, no-booze, no-fireworks, no-wild-animals identity-card carrying liberty utopia right?

Way to stab the REAL Liberals in the back, Daatman!

MessageThe GRP will *Never* support such an ill formed cabinet that will never work for the best interests of Rutania. The Nationalist Party, for instance, will now drag us into a conflict with Vanuku as it now has official government status. The GRP has a long memory, and it will not forget this gross betrayal for a long time to come.

MessageI find it hilarious how every party in this coalition except RFP is listed as "restrictive-leaning", and yet RFP has the timerity to call it a "liberty cabinet"! I dont think that either this government or the last is or has been anything but an alliance of RFP's convenience.

Message"And the results, my fellow liberals, speak for themselves. The tide has turned on regulation of personal issues... on civil liberties."

How can gains for the parties that oppose civil liberties be a tide turning against regulation on personal issues?

How does going into Government with three parties who are regulator leaning (regulation on personal economic decisions), restrictive civil rights (against personal choice) and conservative (impose morals on people) equal a liberty cabinet or one that sees the tide turning on regulation on personal issues? Unless of course you mean turning for the worse.

The RFP refused to work with the conservatives, now they are going into government with a party or two very similar to them, conservative, restrictive leaning and regulators of the economy.

We find this cabinet, scandalous

At the will of the Federal President, into his Four Year in the Office, will serve at his Call.
No Greater Honour may be granted to any Rutanian then to serve the Elected Leader.
May God Bless Rutania and God save the President!

MessageThe RSDP would hold Foreign Affairs under the current proposal, and the RFP would hold HoG and Defence, hence I can't see how the Nationalist Party would be able to set the official policy towards any country or regime.

I dont think that the RFP wants them to, they just want their votes. The two parties hardly ever vote the same way and have almost completely opposite philosophies.

MessageI'd like to clear up that this government does not bind parties to vote in a certain way at all. I really do not understand policy objections that the Right is bringing to the fore. The platform of the RFP stands, as it is, and is not subject to change any time soon.
